Bring in the New Year with New Styles!

Time to re-assess my style needs! I am currently on the hunt for new staple and statement pieces that will add pop and versatility to what is now my plain ol’ wardrobe.

 I encourage everyone to find pieces that you like but wouldn’t normally incorporate into your personal style and try using it in an outfit.

Here are the 4 tips to consider when making your next clothing purchase:

1. Neutrals are Nice 

Clothing in neutral tones (black, grey, beige, white, etc.) is easy to pair with anything, including statement pieces as well as other neutrals. Neutrals serve as closet staples that you could build your whole wardrobe around.

2. Play with Prints

 Prints are fun! Don’t just choose trendy prints; I've learned to choose styles I can see myself wearing for a long time. Mixing prints is actually my favorite part of putting an outfit together. Printed pieces serve as statement pieces that are easy to style because they contain multiple colors that can be matched with the rest of your outfit.

3. Get in Touch with Texture

 Forget the plain, regular cotton and denim and go for more luxurious textures such as silk, lace, velvet and suede. Fringe, embellishments, ruching, and ruffles also add character to your clothes. Using different types of textures and cuts add depth and detail to outfits.

4. Shine on!

 Metallic tones can be used as a statement piece and a neutral staple at the same time! I’ve recently been mixing my accessories and putting gold and silver together. Metallic pieces can be used to add flair and a touch of glam to any outfit.

Remember; a wardrobe makeover can’t be solved by a simple shopping trip. Refreshing personal style takes thought, time and patience.

First things first: I need to take inventory of the clothes I currently wear and truly analyze what colors, fabrics and types of silhouettes I enjoy wearing. You've got to determine what style staples you will always wear, new trends you’d like to try, and the compatibility and versatility of new pieces with your existing wardrobe. Happy Styling!

The topic of 'style' has always been elusive to me. The dictionary definition of style explains it as "a particular manner or technique by which something is done, created, or performed". I've always felt that style is a big part of me. The way I present myself, in every aspect, not just aesthetically, has always been carefully thought out with attentive detail to my particular "style". But, I've never felt as though I belonged to one particular form. Style flows from the core and emanates outward. Style isn't just surface-related. Style is a FEELING, an EXPRESSION of yourself.
Now, in relating style to the way you present yourself: it isn't just as simple as what you wear. You don't mindlessly choose your clothing, although for some it may seem that way. Subconsciously, you are choosing items to represent yourself and what you stand for. I've always loved the idea of expressing myself through my appearance. I've definitely been on the wilder side, at times choosing vivid clothing and hairstyles to make a statement. I've gone through many phases over the years, connecting each one and taking pieces from the last. I've allowed myself to belong to certain stereotypes at times. But at this point in my life, I feel as though committing myself to one certain type of style would be robbing myself of all the colorful landscapes of creative possibility. I observe and intake the styles of those around me and everything I see, strangers, media, etc. And to be honest, it baffles me how some people can adjust themselves to one particular look & feel, always staying so safe in what they feel is the perfect representation of themselves. The ones who's style I admire most are those who are unafraid to take risks, to step out of their comfort zone, and project some different, hidden part of their personality. But all the while, doing so in a manner that always seems to leave a bit of mystery, because the most enticing auras are the ones that leave you a little on the edge of your seat, wanting just one more glimpse.
I belong to a plethora of feelings which I express depending on what is most prominent at the time when I am putting myself together. I may be feeling a little tomboy-ish, so I'll wear some sneakers and jeans with a camo jacket, or if I'm feeling womanly I'll wear a tight dress and heels. Sometimes when I am feeling free, I won't even wear shoes, just a long flowy shirt and shorts. If I'm feeling edgy my make-up will be darker. Or if I'm feeling awe-inspired and innocent I won't even wear make-up at all. Style is lovely because it is a pure expression of what we feel, and who we are. Some may view it as a superficial topic but I find that even those who claim they "don't care" about it are unintentionally displaying themselves anyways.
So, at this point in time I find that I've taken certain aspects of every look I've embraced at one point, and mixed them all together into one large mecca of creative fusion. I am always learning from those around me, always excited to witness new styles and adjust mine. I think that everyone eventually reaches a point where they feel they can express themselves satisfactorily, but even the path that leads to that point is a fulfilling journey. I know that I'll never confine myself to one certain viewpoint, but instead remain open and flowing towards anything that feels right.

lately, my current style's been something along the lines of this:

simple, yet classy. white mocassins, skinny black pants (rolled up) and a collared shirt.


...But I'm sure it won't last :p.

Golden Globes 2013

Who watched the Golden Globes this past Sunday night??

It's the launch of red carpet season!

Hollywood stars... in gorgeous designer threads... dripping in diamonds and pearls...

Now, I'm not gonna bore you with the run down of the nominees and who I thought SHOULD have won, blah blah blah...

I'm getting straight to the point!

Farmers and Fashion

If you're like me, the word "farmer" doesn't necessarily evoke images of glamorous women, trendy men, and their well-dressed children. However, in the last decade or so, there has been a rise in the consumption of organic foods, support of locally grown goods, and attention paid to what goes in our bodies and what exactly happens to food before it lands on our plates (or at least on our sample spoons).

Which leads many people down the country road, past the hand-painted signs, and into the row of booths to place we call, the Farmer's Market. These days, celebrities, well-to-do's, and health conscious (or just plain curious) folks can be found inspecting fruits, weighing vegetables, or sampling homemade jams.

This morning, my husband and I chose to buy our produce at a Farmer's Market, for the very first time! Not only was I impressed at the quality of what these farmer's offered (the reddest and juiciest tomatoes I've ever seen), I also couldn't help turning my head from side to side looking at all of the fashionable outfits that walked through the farmer's market gates.

The look is simple, yet eye-catching; done-up but never over-the-top; bohemian meets bumpkin.

And don't forget to wear sunscreen. Or a cute hat.

Long are the days of throwing on your sweats to shop for goods, my friends. Who says a farmer's market can't be fashion show?

Born in London and raised in Canada, Ray Caesar uses fashion as a means to express his art. His stuff is a bit crazy, but the haunting images seem to stick with you. He is inspired by Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo and is considered to be a surrealist himself.

Most of his paintings include surreal body parts mixed with some pretty awesome fashion. It can be considered Steam Punk in some ways, but also vintage and Victorian. Let's just take a moment to admire the work of this wonderful man!
